Transaero Offers Aircraft to Deliver Humanitarian Aid to Haiti

In the framework of the cooperation with EMERCOM, Transaero Airlines will transport humanitarian aid and a group of Russian rescue workers on its scheduled flights from Moscow to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic to assist the Haitian people affected by the earthquake on January 12.

Two scheduled flights with a group of 12 Russian rescuer workers together with numerous other passengers, UN 553 on Boeing 747-400 and UN 573 on Boeing 777, departed from Moscow's Domodedovo airport on January 21, 2009, and landed successfully at the airport of to Punta Cana the same day. 14.3 tons of humanitarian aid, including food and medical supplies, were delivered in the cargo compartment of the aircraft. After landing in Punta Cana, rescuer workers and cargo were transferred from the Dominican Republic to Haiti.

The Dominican Republic, an island nation neighboring Haiti, was unaffected by last week’s quake. The airport of Punta Cana is open and operating under normal conditions. Tourists from all over the world continue to arrive in the Dominican Republic for holidays.

Transaero Airlines operates up to eight scheduled flights to the Dominican Republic per week from Moscow and St. Petersburg. Transaero has established closer relations with Russian EMERCOM and remains open to further cooperation for transport of emergency assistance to the distressed population of Haiti.
