Social investments
For Transaero, social investment is an efficient way of responding to social expectations and needs. It both strengthens our business reputation and creates the prerequisites for further sustainable development. Transaero’s social programs are the airline’s voluntary contribution designed for evoking positive change in social life.
Transaero pursues a long-term social effect from its programs by adhering to the following social investment principles:
Consistency
Transaero consistently pursues social activities that meet the long-term economic and social interests of businesses.
Partnership
Transaero follows a comprehensive approach to social problems. In implementing its social and charitable programs, we engage leading experts, all while working with regional and local governments and not-for-profit organizations.
Transparency
Transaero pursues a policy of maximum transparency.
In writing its social project support program, Transaero follows the same principles as in implementing its business projects: social projects must be integrated with the airline’s core business, remain sustainable over the long term, and produce tangible results for society.
Transaero's social activities are arranged in the following areas:
- Affordable air transport;
- Children’s health programs;
- Programs for the improvement of disabled people’s lives and adaptation;
- Corporate volunteering.
Affordable air transport
The provision of discounted or free tickets for underprivileged social groups has long been one of Transaero’s charitable activities.
The affordable transport program administered jointly by Transaero and the Saint Petersburg government is one of our key air transport programs.
Transaero provides free seats on its domestic and international scheduled flights to Saint Petersburg’s World War II veterans, survivors of the Siege of Leningrad, holders of the Hero of Russia and Hero of the Soviet Union titles, holders of the three Orders of Glory and Labor Glory, and equivalent groups. Free tickets are provided for direct flights to and from Saint Petersburg all year round.
The purpose of the program is to enable veterans to visit their former battlegrounds, meet former fellow servicemen and undergo therapeutic programs all year round.
Children’s health programs
Aid to children is a key priority of Transaero’s social policy. To ensure efficiency of this type of initiatives, we form partnerships with major charities.
Our childhood cancer program is central to our children’s health activities. The main goals we are pursuing with this program are to promote child healthcare, boost childhood cancer recovery rates, and make treatment in Russian and foreign clinics more affordable to pediatric cancer patients from various regions across Russia.
Key Efforts:
“Back to the Future" post-cancer rehabilitation program for children.
For three years (since 2006), Transaero Airlines and the non-profit organization, “Children", have maintained a unique recovery camp for children who have been treated for cancer. It is a new form of child rehabilitation in Russian oncology. It owes its social significance to the fact that is aimed at accomplishing a vital medical and social task: to provide comprehensive post-cancer rehabilitation of children.
“Back to the Future" is a unique family program for Russia that helps improve the quality of life for children who have been treated for cancer, improve their social adaptation, and to assist them to resume an active life after a lengthy period of treatment.
Free Air Transport for Children with Cancer
Transaero, in cooperation with the Podari Zhizn, Nastenka and Schastlivy Mir charities, provides free flights for children with cancer from Russian provinces to cancer clinics in Moscow and Saint Petersburg, and abroad.
Quality-of-Life Improvement and Adaptation Program for Disabled People
Transaero and the “Perspektiva" disabled person’s society administer a social program designed to improve the quality of life for disabled people and to help with their adaptation.
This partnership program is aimed at empowerment of the physically challenged.
The program includes the following events:
- A series of events for Transaero employees to provide training for them in serving disabled passengers;
- An awareness campaign;
- Transaero’s participation in the Business Council on Disability;
- Support of arts and sporting events for disabled people is an equally important component of the program.
Corporate volunteering
Our staff is our most valuable capital that ensures our success and steady growth.
The Transaero management places enormous emphasis on a healthy work atmosphere and motivation by engaging its employees in charitable volunteer programs.
For Transaero, corporate volunteering is part of a corporate culture that rests on humanitarian values and the encouragement of initiative and creativity. In this corporate culture, the management and the employees share the same values and are willing to voluntarily devote their working time and professional competence to society and their company.
The “Journey to Transaero Country" program has been put into practice by Transaero employee volunteers since 2008.
“Journey to Transaero Country" includes charitable projects by employee volunteers, individual initiatives, awareness campaigns to promote charitable ideas among employees, and educational projects for Transaero employee volunteers.
