Health and Well-Being
No matter how hard the cabin crew work to create a comfortable and enjoyable environment on board, passengers may sometimes experience discomfort or health problems when flying.
Follow these useful tips to feel at ease and comfortable while flying:
• Hard candy will help you relieve the blocked feeling and noise that you may experience due to changes in air pressure while ascending or descending.
• If you have a tickling feeling in your throat, a dry nose or dry eyes due to insufficient cabin humidity, be sure to drink a lot of water or juice and moderate your intake of dehydrating drinks such as tea, coffee and alcohol.
• It is a good idea to use nasal spray and stock up on artificial tears before boarding. It is better to replace your contact lenses with glasses while flying.
• Acceleration may cause you to feel dizzy, sick or a weight in your stomach. Do not eat too much before you fly and abstain from gas-producing foods, such as peas, cabbage and dark bread.
• If you feel dizzy when flying, try to focus on a fixed object.
• Long and frequent flights may lead to blood congestion in your legs putting you at risk of deep venous thrombosis (or DVT). Therefore, avoid crossing your legs while seating, change your position frequently, and carry out light, relaxing foot and leg exercises. We suggest you take off your shoes or loosen your shoestrings.
• It is advisable to wear comfortable, loose clothes while flying. Do not tighten your belt or tie.
• Pregnant women should not travel before their 14th week of pregnancy nor after their 35th week.
